Poster Session

Showcase your academic research to the public on Saturday, April 20th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Viva Science SA. There will be CASH PRIZES for best posters.

Poster Requirements

• We suggest a 3’ by 4’ wide poster. Prepare a 6″ high headline strip that runs the full width of the poster.
• Include the title, authors, and affiliations on the strip in letters not less than 1″ high.
• Posters should be designed to communicate research to the public (i.e. easy to read with clear figures explaining key concepts in simple manner). Please see the example poster below.

The deadline for submissions is April 5th, 2024 at 5:00PM.

Tips for How to Make a Poster for Viva Science SA:

• Realize your audience is not scientists or students, but people like your dad, sister, and neighbor. Your target is the lay audience.
• If they remember one thing from your poster, you did amazing!
• Use a simple and short title. Tell a simple, short story.
• Keep your affiliations short.
• Use figures and images to assist with conveying the message.
• Use a QR code that people can scan to get more information if they are interested.
• Feel free to bring something people can touch, taste or smell. For example, Petri dishes with agar, the plant you study, a plush from Giant Microbes, tonic water (containing the antimalarial drug quinine), or a 3D printed molecule. Be creative!
